Sanne Keizer’s beach volleyball career is over. The volleyball association has announced that the Haarlem, who forms a duo with Madelein Meppelink, will stop. They were together at the Tokyo Olympics last summer.
“I am extremely proud of my top sports career, which has lasted twenty years,” says Keizer about the decision to stop. Together with Meppelink, Keizer became European champion twice and they also won many other international competitions.
“It has been beautiful, and now it is time to pay even more attention to my family and to set new goals,” said Keizer. “The European Championship gold in 2018 was the best moment for me. My children were at the final and that was a dream. I could show them what it can bring if you follow your heart.”
Keizer was eliminated in the group stage at the Olympics. Keizer has been in a couple with Meppelink since 2017. The Haarlem-born participated in the 2012 Games, after which she took a break for a few years. In 2018 the duo became European champions.
