Proud Boys US criminal case halted, commission does not want to release evidence | Abroad

Prosecutors say they need the reports to see what the suspects have told the investigation committee under oath. “It is clear that the interviews conducted by the commission are not only potentially relevant to the criminal prosecution in general, but are likely to be relevant to specific criminal cases that have already begun,” the Washington District Attorney’s Office wrote.

The parliamentary committee chair, Democrat Bennie Thompson, said on Thursday that the committee “will eventually share” the reports, but that “the committee has its own timetable”.

US prosecutors have charged hundreds of individuals who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6. A number of members of the Proud Boys and of another far-right organization, Oath Keepers, have been charged with conspiracy.
