Protest walk in De Spie
De Spie was already mentioned in the Bruges stadium dossier as a possible location for a new stadium for Club Brugge. Now the piece of nature is again in jeopardy, it would be laid out as an industrial estate.
The area is 42 hectares. And therefore also an important water buffer for the region when it rains heavily. This became apparent only a few weeks ago, when about half of the area was under water. Four environmental associations appealed against the environmental permit, after they had previously – unsuccessfully – appealed against the GRUP. To counteract this, four Bruges nature associations organized a protest walk today.
A decision will be taken by Minister Zuhal Demir at the end of this month. The Bruges nature associations hope that De Spie will remain intact and be permanently protected.
