Protest against Roger Waters concert: “Get out of our city”

Frankfurt am Main has kept its word: the announced protest against Roger Waters’ concert took place in front of the Festhalle. According to the police, around 400 people have gathered to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust, to protest against the rock musician and to express their solidarity with Israel.

The fact that Roger Waters is now playing in the Frankfurt Festhalle today is also problematic from a historical point of view. In 1938, during the November pogroms, more than 3,000 Jewish men were rounded up there to be taken to concentration camps or prisons. At the beginning of the protest and commemoration event, hundreds of names of the Jews deported from the Festhalle were read out. With slogans like “We don’t need your education” and “Wish you were not here”, the demonstrators also alluded to the big Pink Floyd hits, which can probably be heard again at the concert today.

“We don’t want to stand idly by when – right here behind us – a well-known anti-Semite and conspiracy theorist is literally given a stage in Frankfurt,” said representatives of the Jewish community. Originally, attempts were made to cancel Roger Waters’ show in Frankfurt. However, the musician sued and was right.

Roger Waters has long been criticized for his repeated anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli statements in the past. He also actively supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanction (BDS) campaign, which advocates a boycott of Israel.
