About thirty opponents of the overhead power line gathered at the village school. According to them, the Stalhille school is one of 37 schools and 47 nurseries located in the search area of the Ventilus high-voltage line. The opponents are especially concerned for the health of the children in the various schools and childcare. (read more below the photo)
The action committee is afraid of a possible link between magnetic fields from high-voltage lines and an increased risk of childhood leukemia. Erik Blauwet, Action Committee against Ventilus Jabbeke: “I am very disappointed that this school will be located in a search zone here in the quiet Stalhille. That is something that is incomprehensible.”
Ventilus is to bring power from the new offshore wind farms to the inland via a new high-voltage line. But Elia’s project is very controversial. Local residents from various municipalities oppose the above-ground route that has been drawn up and demand that the high voltage be installed underground. They threaten legal action.
