ProSiebenSat.1 boss Bert Habets has again courted the public houses for cooperation in the media library area.
The private TV group has in mind that the ARD and ZDF media libraries could be available on the TV group’s own streaming platform Joyn – so far you can see the live program from public and private broadcasters there.
Habets said on Friday in his speech at the ProSiebenSat.1 Annual General Meeting with regard to the topic: “When integrating the content of German public broadcasting on Joyn, we would of course take all media law requirements into account, especially with regard to the topic of advertising. ” There are also no obstacles in terms of copyright or antitrust law. “We are already having good talks with the public broadcaster.”
When asked by the German Press Agency, an ARD spokesman responded: “The ARD chairman Kai Gniffke and Bert Habets have so far exchanged general information in a personal conversation. ARD and ZDF are currently building their joint streaming network “This cooperation has top priority for ARD. There are currently no talks about a cooperation with ProSiebenSat.1 to set up a German-language media platform under the Joyn umbrella.”
In a statement responding to a dpa request, ZDF also emphasized the streaming network of the public service houses: When it comes to streaming, they rely on networking and have therefore designed a streaming network together with ARD. “The central goal is initially to create a large cosmos of public law content and make it easy for the public to use.”

ZDF also said: “We see the project as a European one and could well imagine involving other partners as well. A common platform for public and private media companies would first require a corresponding framework from the legislature.”
