Hertha goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck (28) has to go to court!
The Salzburg public prosecutor is charging the goalkeeper with serious bodily harm. She announced this when asked by BILD.
An official statement said: “Investigations were pending against a soccer player from the German club Hertha BSC at the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office. A criminal complaint has now been filed with the Salzburg Regional Court for serious bodily harm in accordance with Section 84 (4) of the Austrian Criminal Code (StGB).
► Gersbeck is said to have hit a 22-year-old local in the face and kicked his upper body at the training camp in Austria. The victim had to be treated in hospital for a concussion and multiple facial fractures, after which he was on sick leave for weeks.
Hertha goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck faces up to five years in prison if convicted
The statement states: “Accordingly, the accused is suspected of having punched and kicked the victim in Zell am See on July 16, 2023 and thereby, albeit negligently, caused serious bodily harm, namely an orbital floor fracture, a maxillary sinus wall fracture and a lid hematoma.”
A trial is scheduled for September 28th. According to Austrian law, Gersbeck faces up to five years in prison.
The capital club then suspended Gersbeck on July 17. However, the goalkeeper has been training individually on the Olympic grounds for a few weeks.
Gersbeck has now agreed on a payment with the victims. This settles the civil claims.
Now Hertha’s managers around managing director Thomas Herrich (59) have to decide how to proceed!
