Between Saturday 29 April and Monday 8 May, ProRail will remove several badger setts under the tracks at Berghem and Geffen. Trains are already running slower there now, to prevent the tracks from subsiding. Due to the removal of the castles and a number of other maintenance jobs, no trains run between Den Bosch and Nijmegen for more than a week.
At the end of March, badgers under the track at Esch were already causing major problems on the track between Den Bosch and Eindhoven. As a result, travelers had to detour for days. The same happened just before in Friesland and castles were also discovered in Vught.
Problems in more places
ProRail already announced at the time that more places in our province are being checked extra, because badgers might live there. Now that appears to be the case at least in Berghem and Geffen.
The railway manager has now received the exemption to remove the castles. Such an exemption is necessary because badgers are protected animals. Once they have left, material is also placed under the track so that the badgers do not dig holes again.
Other activities
The removal of the badger sets coincides with a number of other maintenance jobs. For example, between April 29 and May 8, the roof plates of Oss station will also be replaced and the railway bridge at Ravenstein will be tackled.
Den Bosch Oost station will also be given a major makeover. There, for example, the benches on the platforms will be replaced and the forecourts of the station will be adapted.
