From August 15, Aldi will again be offering an e-bike at a reduced price. TECHBOOK checks the offer.
The demand for e-bikes increases in Germany continuously for a long time. In the past two years, more than two million electric bicycles have been sold. If you are still looking for a suitable device, you will find it at Aldi. The discounter has been selling a city e-bike from the manufacturer Prophete since August 15 Online shop. But is the bike with an electric motor worth it at the reduced price?
City e-bike from Aldi for 1299 euros
This is not the first time that Aldi has sold Prophete e-bikes. The company is known for its popular entry-level e-bikes. A city bike is a type of bike that is ideally suited to city life. The central buzzwords here are suitability for everyday use, flexibility and comfort; the devices are therefore mainly suitable for on-road use and less for off-road use.
At Aldi, the city e-bike from Prophete will be available from August 15 for 1299 euros in the online shops of both Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd. The offer runs until October 9th or while stocks last. There are no additional shipping costs.
The technical data in the overview
The Prophete e-bike has 28-inch tires and a deep aluminum wave frame. A SideClick battery and an electronic Novation mid-motor from TRIO provide the appropriate motorisation. Aldi does not mention a coaster brake, but instead a hydraulic rim brake from the Swabian manufacturer Magura. Its brakes generally have a good reputation and generate comprehensive braking power even with little manual effort.
Of course, the range is also important for e-bike riders. This is a maximum of 140 kilometers for the Prophete bike, which is quite a good value for a city bike. In any case, the 140 kilometers are completely sufficient for everyday city life. Whether or not you can use the full range in the end also depends on your driving style. The weight of 27 kilograms is also disadvantageous. In our TECHBOOK test, even an 18-kilogram e-bike posed a real challenge in everyday life if there was no elevator.

Is the city e-bike worth it at Aldi?
Aldi states the normal RRP of the city e-bike from Prophete at 1499 euros. The saving is therefore 200 euros and 13 percent. In any case, the unobtrusively chic look and the range should be positively emphasized. With the e-Novation mid-engine and the seven gears, the bike rolls really nicely on the road, as many users report.
However, one must honestly say that there are comparable e-bikes for a lower price of around 900 euros. So if you really want to save, you should look for another offer.
