Property Tax office in the picture for social housing

The municipality of Emmen is investigating whether the former office of the Tax Authorities on the Dalipassage is suitable for social housing. Discussions are being held about this with the Central Government Real Estate Agency, the current owner.

The Central Government Real Estate Agency announced last year that it wanted to sell the property. The office was one of two buildings in Emmen where the tax authorities had their office until two years ago. This was moved years ago to the former building of the Topographical Service on the Weerdingerstraat.

The first, the 1964 building along Raadhuisplein, is currently being converted into an apartment complex with 82 homes. Right behind it is the second office that was built in 1976. This is the building that the municipality is currently considering.

“The building has been empty for a long time and is located in an area where housing could be added,” a spokesperson said. “That is why we asked the Central Government Real Estate Agency if we could make a plan for this building. We are thinking of specific target groups, such as students, because there are no parking facilities.” In that case, it concerns social housing.

The possibilities have now been discussed with housing corporations Lefier and Domesta. “They may be further involved in this in the future.”

For the time being, the municipality assumes 30 to 40 studios or apartments. “But nothing is certain yet.”

According to the spokesperson, discussions about this plan are ongoing. This spring, the Central Government Real Estate Agency announced that it was investigating whether the former office complex would qualify as a possible reception location for refugees. “That is not the case. Not for crisis reception as well as for reception of asylum seekers,” said the spokesperson.
