Promotion celebrations with Hollywood glamor in Wrexham

AFC Wrexham from Wales has made it – the club of the two Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney is back in professional football.

The pair joined Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively and friend Paul Rudd on Saturday night to celebrate Wrexham’s 3-1 win over Boreham FC on the penultimate day of the National League.

When the final whistle sounded in the stadium with completely euphoric fans, Reynolds grabbed his head with both hands – he couldn’t seem to believe it himself. McElhenney stood behind it and blew through first. While the fans stormed the square immediately after the end, the two Hollywood stars hugged each other – with tears in their eyes.

The club that the two actors bought in 2021 can no longer be ousted from first place with one game left. Wrexham has 110 points, four more than Notts County in second. The promotion to League Two is prematurely perfect.

“It’s an incredible story, a story you probably wouldn’t write in Hollywood,” commented the BBC’s Welsh football correspondent on the broadcaster’s live ticker: “But sometimes dreams come true and that’s what happens here.” 15 years ago, Wrexham was relegated from the fourth division.
