After the championship in the third division, ADO’20 can prepare for an already historic season. The football club from Heemskerk has never played so high. Trainer Roy van der Mije bets high. “We are ambitious so I’m really looking forward to it now.”
Last season, the promoted OFC from Oostzaan immediately relegated ingloriously from the second division. However, Van der Mije wants to aim high with ADO’20 as a newcomer. “Ultimately we want to participate. As a trainer you have to say: the highest achievable and that is champion. We will see from there. We will have to adjust the objective. But we will not say that we are going for body preservation, we just want join in!”

In addition, Van der Mije notes that the championship will be a utopia for the newcomer to the second division. “You have to be realistic. Of course we should not think that we will become champions in one go. You have to play to win. That must be the intention.”

Preparations for the upcoming season are already in full swing. Last Saturday, the team of coach Roy van der Mije convincingly won 5-0 against RKAV Volendam. Against Telstar (2-1 loss), ADO’20 also put in a great match and only went down in the closing minutes, while it could keep up with the level of the Velsen team for a long time.
Video analysis and puppets
It indicates that confidence is present at ADO’20 before it starts a tough season in the second division. The club has already responded to this by investing in a number of things. “There will be a video analysis system and an extra trainer. It all sounds very pathetic, but the materials are being adjusted. We get puppets instead of pawns. You can do a lot with that. We get all kinds of things now and those hopefully make us better.”

The team will look largely the same as with which it became champion in the third division. “We want to let as many regional players and our own youth come through as possible,” says Van der Mije. “I can add a bonus player. Just a good footballer,” says the trainer, who notes that the line-up is thin, especially in the back.
ADO’20 will start the competition on August 19 with a home match against GVVV.
