ProLeague: Danneberg saves Germany’s prestige win over Netherlands

The German hockey men are gradually playing in EM form. In the ProLeague they celebrated a prestigious victory against the Netherlands.

In the duel between the current world champion and the three-time champion, Germany beat the hosts 4-1 (1-1, 0-1) in a penalty shootout in Amsterdam. Eight weeks before the European Championships at home in Mönchengladbach, the DHB selection celebrated their third win in a row in the ProLeague.

Match winner in the German team was the Cologne goalkeeper Jean-Paul Danneberg, who saved his team’s victory with several saves and a successful shootout. “It was an incredible feeling today. Now we’re in a good rhythm,” said Danneberg.

Victory on Friday against New Zealand

The goals came from Germany’s penalty corner specialist Gonzalo Peillat (32′), who had scored the winning goals in previous games against Great Britain (3-2) and New Zealand (4-3), and Thijs van Dam (15′) for the Host. In the penalty shootout, Niklas Wellen, Hannes Müller, Thies Prinz and Johannes Große scored against Germany’s opponents in the preliminary round of the European Championship.

In the first game in Amsterdam on Friday, the German team came back from a 3-1 deficit against New Zealand in the last minute thanks to a Peillat goal to make it 4-3. Peillat’s Mannheim clubmate Justus Weigand (2) and Mirko Miltkau (HC Klein Zwitserland) had previously met.
