The Estonian ‘Posttime’ writes on Tuesday that Vyacheslav Morozov (51) was arrested by the military police on January 3. “The arrest follows 20 previous cases of espionage and shows how Russia is trying to infiltrate Estonian life at various levels, including in the scientific sector,” said Margo Palloson, director general of the military police.
Because there is a risk of flight, the Harju court decided to transfer the professor to a prison. The public prosecutor’s office did not release any further details about the investigation.
Vyacheslav Morozov (51) is a political scientist and doctor of historical sciences. He specializes in EU-Russia relations and has worked at the University of Tartu in Estonia since 2010, where he has now been dismissed. “This is a shock to all of us. Our trust has been seriously violated,” the university reports.
Morozov is also known at universities in our country. In 2016 he was invited to the opening evening of the Russia Platform at Ghent University.
