After two years of no Pro Ronde van Noord-Holland, the cycling race is definitely back this year. On Sunday 24 April, the cyclists will start in Purmerend and finish in Stompetoren. Chairman Koos Venema is very happy that the event can take place again: “That is the understatement of the day.”
Due to the corona virus, the 2020 and 2021 editions were canceled. “It is also quite difficult to keep things going if you cannot organize for two years,” says Venema. “You are busy, but you almost know that it cannot go on because of all the corona perils.”
The start is at the beginning of the afternoon at the Koemarkt in Purmerend. A few hours later, the cyclists finish in Stompetoren on the Oterlekerweg. In the past two years, the finish line would already be in Stompetoren. “The associations and the catering industry in Stompetoren are very enthusiastic. They are very eager to help. We always had to postpone and now we can get to work. That is nice for those people too.”
one day
The cycling event was a two-day event three years ago. Now there is only a match on Sunday 24 April. “We have said to each other that we must ensure that there is a Pro round of North Holland this year. A one-day is then just a little easier to complete,” said Venema.
As in the previous editions, the Proronde of North Holland is part of the Top Competition. That is the platform for the best Dutch continental and club teams.
