Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – German professional football is intensifying the fight against anti-Semitism and is cooperating for the first time with the Central Council of Jews in Germany and the World Jewish Congress.
The German Football League, together with the two organizations, is organizing a specialist conference on March 30 in Dortmund entitled “Anti-Semitism and Professional Football: Challenges, Opportunities, Network”.
“The German professional clubs and the DFL have been campaigning against anti-Semitism and for a lively culture of remembrance for many years, out of deep conviction,” said DFL Managing Director Donata Hopfen. The event with representatives of Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs, Jewish organizations and communities as well as other experts is “a next, important step”.
The aim is to better coordinate and bundle projects from football clubs and associations in order to achieve a greater impact in anti-discrimination work. Last year, the 36 professional clubs unanimously decided to position themselves clearly and unequivocally against any form of anti-Semitism.
