Product of the week: The pastel colored dress

What is it:

It was known well in advance that pastels would be one of the key colors of the Spring/Summer season, but their presence on the SS24 runways has underlined this prediction. Numerous colors appeared in pastel shades: turquoise, soft pink, sky blue, citrus yellow and lavender are just a few examples of the wide range of pastel colors. The delicate tones were mainly seen in supple cuts and voluminous, yet light silhouettes. The dresses shown on the catwalks reflected the summer season and many designers opted for airy and breathable styles such as cami or skater dresses.

Why you should order it:

Pastels are colors that recur year after year. Therefore, products in these colors are particularly attractive for retailers and consumers who are looking for timeless yet trendy products. The most important seasons for these shades are spring and summer, as the warm days are often accompanied by brighter colors, meaning demand for the products increases during this period. The ongoing shift in men’s fashion – which is blurring gender lines in fashion – has also seen pastels expand their reach and appeal to a wider market. A trend that is likely to increase over time.

Where we saw it:

Designers embracing pastel tones took over the SS24 fashion weeks with a subtle rainbow of largely neutral colorways, giving a glimpse of how the delicate tones can enhance the dresses’ light feel. While Bottega Veneta chose tones like ‘buttermilk yellow’ for its cami dresses, Carolina Herrera showed a supple maxi dress in light lavender. Other labels combined multiple trends, opting for pastels in voluminous, layered dresses, like Adeam’s aquamarine look and Altuzarra’s nude babydoll dress. Chanel opted for thicker materials and applied various pastel tones to the fashion house’s signature tweed, updating the signature Chanel look for the upcoming warm season.

How to style it:

Monochrome dresses in pastel tones are a daring choice as the colors are sometimes difficult to combine. Therefore, the dresses can stand well as a stand-alone outfit, but can be enhanced with minimalist accessories. A thin necklace and a shiny clutch with shoes in a shade that matches the dress are an easy way to dress up the dress for the evening. For the day, you can combine the look with a light, long coat or a thick sweater to add depth to the outfit through layering.

Pastel colors are a trend that will become more popular with each new summer season. Even if the colors are very reserved, they make their own statement as dresses and bring life to the light silhouettes that typically dominate the warm season.
