Is the Groningen gas tap open further? This suggestion is made more and more often under fine pretexts. The most important question here is whether it is safe to extract more gas from the Groningen gas field. The State Supervision of Mines (SodM) took a clear position this week: more gas extraction in Groningen still poses additional safety risks. The SodM emphasizes that only when gas extraction has been phased out and the houses that need it have been strengthened, will it be just as safe in Groningen as in the rest of the Netherlands!
