Procession of the Holy Blood: Bruges is making final preparations

This weekend the last straight line to the Holy Blood Procession was started and so a lot still needs to be done. This is how the hundreds of participants try on their costumes again this weekend. Also this year there are a lot of groups in the new.

Grown into a showpiece

The hundreds of extras who join Bruges’ Cleanest Day will also come together one last time this weekend to practice, so that everything runs smoothly on Thursday. Director Dominique Deckers has his hands full to make the procession a dynamic whole.

Without detracting from the tradition and message of the Procession of the Holy Blood, the procession has switched to a fascinating and beautiful spectacle. And that also applies to the clothing of the extras. For example, the costume of the group “Bruges Feest” refers to the Flemish Primitives.

€100,000 in renewal

Every year, about 100,000 euros is invested in innovations of the procession. This year is a busy edition, because many people from Bruges once again consider it a matter of honor to contribute to Bruges’ Cleanest Day.

On Thursday, on Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Assumption, the Procession of the Holy Blood will be broadcast live on Focus and WTV. The broadcast starts at 3 p.m. and lasts an hour and a half.
