Procession for the crashed Axl (17) from Zeebrugge to Damme
The VTI in Zeebrugge organizes the commemoration for Axl. The participants leave the school in convoy with their vehicles to the place where the accident happened in Moerkerke near Damme. Some tractors also take part in the memorial tour, because Axl comes from a family of farmers.
Axl left last Wednesday with his moped from the VTI in Zeebrugge home in Moerkerke. A journey he has been doing for many years. He was almost home when he bumped into a van at an intersection. That last trip is now being repeated by Axl’s friends and family.
Funeral
This morning the funeral ceremony took place in the Sint-Dionysiuskerk in Moerkerke. Friends and family of Axl carried the coffin in the church. When he left, members of KLJ St-Kruis Vivenkapelle formed a guard of honor for him. The service could also be followed on a live stream and an outside screen. The church itself was packed.
