Last summer, Borussia Dortmund and left-back Nico Schulz ended their collaboration. At the same time, legal proceedings were already underway against the ex-national player, for whom BVB had once paid a transfer fee of 25 million euros. The verdict came down on Wednesday.
As it became known in the afternoon, the Dortmund district court has temporarily closed the proceedings against Schulz.
The 30-year-old has to pay 150,000 euros to charitable institutions. If this amount is received within three months, the final discontinuation will take place. Judge Christine Weber confirmed this to the “SID”.
Schulz was accused of three counts of grievous bodily harm. The main proceedings before the jury court opened on Wednesday, and the verdict was handed down on the same day. Five non-profit organizations will each receive 30,000 euros.
BVB terminated Schulz’s contract early, and the former DFB selection player has been without a club since then. His last mission was on May 7, 2022.
Million man Nico Schulz flopped at BVB
In July 2019, the full-back moved from TSG Hoffenheim to Dortmund for 25 million euros, but he never really got there.
“We are all aware that things have not developed as hoped for Borussia Dortmund and Nico Schulz in recent years. Nevertheless, we wish Nico all the best for his sporting and personal future,” said BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl in an official statement Quoted from the club about the separation.
According to information from “Bild”, both parties agreed on a termination agreement, which brought the Berlin native another payment of 2.5 million euros.
After all, if Schulz had sat out the last year of his contract until 2024, BVB would have had to shell out an estimated 5.5 million euros.
The coming months will show whether the defender can get his career going again. There have been no recent rumors of interest in Schulz’s services.
