The euphoria surrounding the operation Sky ECC, say the Whatsapp of the Antwerp drug mafia, has ebbed away. Not a single drug criminal in Antwerp has yet been convicted. Their lawyers are engaged in a procedural battle that causes a lot of delay. Over the next few days, the court has to decide in a number of processes: is the evidence that investigators distilled from the millions of deciphered Sky ECC messages reliable and sufficient for serious convictions? Or are the procedural complaints justified and an acquittal beckons?
