In his generally mixed debut season at BVB, Thomas Meunier once trained for a few months under Edin Terzic. Now the latter is line manager at Dortmund again – a bad omen for the Belgian full-back? Obviously not!
When Edin Terzic led BVB from victory to victory in spring 2021, some well-known professionals only played a supporting role. One of them was Thomas Meunier, who was only rarely considered by the native of Menden at the time.
However, the veteran did not see any particular need for discussion after Terzic’s return. “There was no reason for that,” Meunier emphasized in “table football“-Interview.
The veteran international was able to understand the coach’s decisions. “Edin was in a situation where he had to try everything to save this club. We were in a very difficult situation. He did his job then and stabilized us,” he pointed out.
Meunier saw and sees his own achievements critically. “I don’t blame him that I only played irregularly. He had the team in mind and got the maximum out of it. And, I have to be honest with myself, I wasn’t good enough at the time either,” admitted the 30-year-old year olds.
Now it’s “starting from scratch again,” said Meunier, who announced: “I’ll give everything to get into the team.”
Meunier: BVB doesn’t need “world stars”
The right-back already has a good feeling for the new season – not least thanks to the newcomers at BVB.
“When I look at our training, I see a lot of quality. Our new players suit us very well. Because they’re good footballers. But also because they’re fighters. That’s exactly what we need: players who are ready to do anything for the We don’t need world stars, we need players who have their hearts in the right place,” explained Meunier, who has played 59 competitive games for Borussia so far (three goals, seven assists).
