Problems in the middle block: BR Volleys without Jendryk for the time being

Without Jeffrey Jendryk, the BR Volleys started their journey to the second playoff final game at VfB Friedrichshafen on Tuesday.

“Jeff is definitely out for the second final game, but the injury doesn’t mean the end of the season for him,” BR Volleys told the German Press Agency before the game on Wednesday in Ulm (8 p.m. / Sportdeutschland.TV).

The 2.05 meter middle blocker twisted his ankle during a defensive action at the net in the 2:3 defeat at the start of the final on Saturday in the second set and had to be replaced by Georg Klein. The MRI scan on Tuesday revealed a ligament injury in the right ankle.

The middle block is undoubtedly the problem area for the German champions this season. With jendryk and Nehemiah Mote, the team is above average in this position, even by European standards. “Neither of the two must be allowed to hurt themselves,” Managing Director Kaweh Niroomand emphasized again and again last autumn.

The cause of the problem: National player Anton Brehme was scheduled as the third middle blocker for the BR Volleys. He fell due to knee problems at the beginning of the season but will not be used again this season. The Volleys went looking for a new middle blocker in November, but couldn’t find one that was good enough or affordable.

Without further ado, Georg Klein was reactivated. The 30-year-old had ended his volleyball career two years earlier to concentrate on his studies with the police. Now Klein has the important task of deputizing for Jendryk in the finals so that the BR Volleys can equalize at VfB Friedrichshafen to make it 1-1.
