Pro-Russian cyber attack on websites of the House of Representatives, Senate and Belgian Monarchy: second attack in one month | Domestic

The Center for Cybersecurity (CCB) confirms to the Belga news agency that a number of government websites have been targeted and has subsequently notified the relevant services. “All in all, the nuisance has remained limited,” said spokeswoman Katrien Eggers.

On X, the pro-Russian hacker group “NoName” showed its dissatisfaction with our country’s support for Ukraine. “The Belgian authorities, who do not care about the problems of their own citizens and forget the crisis situation in their economy, have set up a fund to support Ukraine,” it said.

Last month, several government sites were also down for some time due to a cyber attack. According to the CCB, this was a so-called DDoS attack, an attack in which a lot of computers simultaneously burden the servers so much that they become inaccessible. “It is mainly a way to get on Belgium’s nerves and to make a political statement,” our tech expert Kenneth Dée explained at the time.

The hacker group “NoName” – which regularly carries out attacks to “revenge” for Western support for Ukraine – also immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. In June, the pro-Russian group shut down the websites of Dutch ports in response to the intention of our northern neighbors to buy Swiss tanks for Ukraine.
