The Christian health insurer Pro Life will also reimburse abortion, euthanasia and transgender care from next year. The company will discontinue its basic policy that excludes payment for such treatments. Parent company Zilveren Kruis confirms this after a report in the Reformatorisch Dagblad.
Interventions such as abortion, euthanasia and gender reassignment are very sensitive in the Reformed part of the country. The treatments are included in the basic health insurance package, under the heading of specialist medical care. However, the law also states that people with ethical objections can exclude those forms of care.
In a statement, the director of Pro Life, Jos Leijenhorst, says: “‘Why are we changing this? Not because we have started to think differently. But to ensure that exclusions for reimbursements no longer form a barrier. We see that our choices sometimes lead to pros and cons.” He adds that “Christians also have different views on the exclusion of allowances”.
