Prison sentence for hungry thief (22) who robbed meal delivery person of fries and snacks

The 22-year-old man who robbed a meal delivery person from Emmen last August has been sentenced by the court in Assen to fifteen months in prison, eight months of which are conditional. The man was very hungry when he committed the robbery, the twenty-something told the judge two weeks ago.

The man who stayed in Emmen last year had not eaten for days. The money he had was spent on tobacco. The man placed a large order at a cafeteria and had the delivery person come to the Rolderbrink in Emmen that evening.

The meal deliverer was forced to put the food on the ground with a fake weapon. The robber then ran off with the 20-year-old delivery man’s food and money. The man ate some of the fries and snacks on a bench in the Bargeres district. He took the rest with him to his lodgings.

He was arrested together with another man. It later turned out that it had nothing to do with the robbery.

The 22-year-old man was convicted of extortion and prohibited possession of weapons. He struggles with a sad past and disorders. He needs to be treated for that. The judge finds that the twenty-something man, by committing a robbery, has created a great feeling of insecurity in society. The sentence is equal to the demand of the Public Prosecution Service.
