Arjen W., the man who systematically abused two young brothers about twenty years ago, receives a prison sentence of three years, one of which is conditional. The court considers the facts of the sexual abuse proven and sees it as a violation of the physical integrity of the boys, who are now in their twenties.
The facts happened between 2002 and 2012. The two boys were between four and twelve years old when they regularly visited Arjen W.’s home. Their own parents were uneasy because they allegedly had alcohol and money problems.
The man said he became a good friend of the children after the boys’ sister came into contact with him. The young brothers looked for a safe environment and thought they would find it with him. “I was like a father to them,” said Arjen. His house did not appear to be a safe haven for the boys.
Systematic abuse
For years, the boys, together with their older brother who did not report the crime, were abused. They were raped or abused in the shower, on the couch or in the bed.
“I am angry and frustrated about what you have done to us. I will carry this with me all my life,” the middle brother’s lawyer said two weeks ago. “Actually, people like you shouldn’t be walking around freely.” According to the man, the initiative for sex had always been with the boys.
Pronunciation
According to W.’s psychologist, he has an autism spectrum disorder, which limits his ability to reflect on his actions. This also became apparent in court two weeks ago: “I always put others first,” W. said at the time. Today there appeared to be no feeling of guilt or regret, but he walked out of the room in a good mood.
