For laundering money that a 39-year-old man from Emmen earned from trading in hemp, he must serve a prison sentence of seven months. The man earned more than 58,000 euros from January 2019 to June 2022. After deducting the costs, he must repay almost 44,000 euros.
Last year in July, officers seized almost 2 kilos of cannabis buds during the search of the man’s home. The police noticed that the house was full of expensive shoes, luxury items and clothing. And there was a can of pepper spray. That is why the man was also convicted of prohibited possession of weapons.
The officers were more concerned about the discovery of a quantity of professional fireworks. It was stored openly in the shed. The Emmen resident had purchased this once, but never dared to light it. “These types of fireworks are many times heavier than consumer fireworks. This could have been very serious if it had exploded,” the judge said.
The Emmen resident handled the risks too lightly, the judge said. He has become involved in the criminal world and contributed to the maintenance of this type of crime. The court found the proposed sentence appropriate and adopted it.
