Joris A. was sentenced this afternoon in court in Alkmaar for a prison sentence for the fatal car accident in October 2021 on the Zanddijk in Julianadorp. He will receive 18 months, of which 12 months will be conditional with a probationary period of three years. In addition, the 20-year-old from Julianadorp will be banned from driving for a maximum of 5 years. Relatives were present at the verdict and are relieved.
Jason, the occupant of the car and friend of driver Joris A., died in the accident, and his girlfriend was seriously injured. Jason’s family and friends ended up in a hellish nightmare. Today was another emotional day for the bereaved.
Just like at the hearing of the case two weeks ago, where the father, mother and sister used their right to speak, many of Jason’s relatives were present. They visibly sought support from each other and a tear flowed regularly. But there was mainly a sigh of relief when the judge pronounced the defective sentence, which also mentioned a driving ban.
Lost driver’s license
Joris A. has been found guilty of causing a fatal traffic accident through reckless driving. In addition to the prison sentence, he is banned from the road for five years, which is the maximum. However, the year that Joris A. has already lost his driver’s license will be deducted from this. So another four years, but Jason’s relatives were visibly happy with that.
In addition, Joris A. must pay Jason’s father, mother and stepfather affection damages. That is a total of 57,500 euros.
Two weeks earlier, the public prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of two years, with one year suspended and a probationary period of two years, with the recovery of the driver’s license for four years. Joris A.’s lawyer pleaded for 240 hours of community service and a one-year driving ban, but the judge disagreed.
