Prison and youth tbs imposed for stabbing incident in the heart of Emmen

For a serious stabbing incident in the center of Emmen, the judge imposed 302 days of juvenile detention and youth TBS on a 20-year-old Emmenaar. The (then) 17-year-old victim was taken to hospital bleeding profusely and had just missed an artery. The judge found attempted manslaughter proven.

The resident of Emmen reported to the police station on 1 June last year, a day after the incident, and confessed. He was under the influence of alcohol and drugs and his vision was blurred when he stabbed. The judge said it could have ended very differently. After the act, he threw the knife into the water. The weapon has never been recovered.

Served pre-trial detention

The man has been diagnosed with a developmental disorder. The court adopted the advice to try the resident of Emmen according to the juvenile criminal law. The 20-year-old has been convicted of violent crimes more than once in the past five years. Proper treatment could put an end to this. The penalty is equal to the requirement of the Public Prosecution Service. The Emmen has now been in custody for ten months and has thus served his prison sentence.
