“The three men were out that night with evil plans,” said the public prosecutor about the three Assen residents who committed four home burglaries in Roden in the night of 3 to 4 October 2021 and stole a beamer from a recreation room of a campsite.
For this series of thefts, the public prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of 30 months, half of which was conditional, against the 27-year-old Assenaar. A 26-year-old fellow citizen should be given a suspended prison sentence of one and a half years with a community service of 240 hours.
A 26-year-old man from Assen was also on the lookout. A nine-month suspended prison sentence and 240 hours of community service were demanded against him.
The three Assen residents were also charged with a home burglary in Heerenveen and seven industrial burglaries or attempted burglaries in Franeker. They would have been committed in varying composition.
The eldest was also accused of thefts from the dressing room of VV Leo in Loon, Achilles 1984 in Assen and a football club in Franeker. One of the robberies happened when a player was taking a shower. In addition, the 27-year-old suspect refused to cooperate with a traffic control and is said to have been guilty of threats and assault.
During the series of home burglaries in Roden, the men took a car with them. The intention was to commit a ram raid at the jeweler in Leek with the stolen car, but it was destroyed prematurely.
The burglaries were recorded by a number of doorbell cameras. Two of the three men were subsequently recognized by the police. The third person was clearly standing guard by the car. The residents were sleeping during the burglaries. A found screwdriver contained cellular material from the oldest suspect.
Two of the three also committed a home burglary in Heerenveen on October 14, 2021. This happened in broad daylight. The whole house was turned upside down. The stolen camera tried to sell the 26-year-old Assenaar via the internet. However, he ran into a trap and was arrested.
At that time, the two co-defendants were staying in an institution in Franeker. Both committed seven burglaries on a stolen e-bike on a site in Franeker. Five of these failed.
One of the 26-year-olds was transferred to a residential institution in Leeuwarden, the 27-year-old is now imprisoned because he could not comply with the conditions. They have a lengthy criminal record.
The public prosecutor thought a long prison sentence was appropriate for both suspects, were it not that the probation service reported positively about them. They indicated that they wanted to make a clean sweep. The third suspect from Assen had no criminal record and his role was much smaller. For that reason he would not have to go to jail, the prosecutor said.
The court will rule in two weeks.
