Prison and community service for Asser trio of burglars that struck in Drenthe and Friesland

Three men from Assen have been sentenced to prison for a series of home burglaries in Roden, and attempted burglaries. A man received a prison sentence of thirty months, half of which was conditional. The second person received a suspended prison sentence of fifteen months and 240 hours of community service.

The men committed the burglaries in one night, at the beginning of October 2021. One of them was always on the lookout. He received a suspended prison sentence of nine months and 240 hours of community service. His sentence is lower than the rest because his role was significantly smaller.

The group (in varying composition) was also responsible for a home burglary in Heerenveen and seven business burglaries, or attempted burglaries, in Franeker. The eldest was also responsible for thefts from the dressing room of VV Leo in Loon, Achilles 1984 in Assen and a football club in Franeker.

During one of the burglaries, a car was locked, which the men used to drive to Leek and commit a ram raid at a jeweler there. The car was already on its way there total loss driven.

Like the Public Prosecution Service, the court took the personal circumstances of the three into account. They have improved their lives and seem to be on the right path. An unconditional prison sentence would only disrupt this, according to the judge, who imposed the same sentences as demanded by the Public Prosecution Service.
