Director: Alberto Rodriguez. With Miguel Herrán, Javier Gutiérrez, Jesus Carroza

It is 1977, Francisco Franco had died 3 years earlier freeing Spain from 40 years of dictatorship. Democratic Transition is No Simple Business and Director’s Choice by The minimal islandto observe it through the lens of the prison film, is interesting.

Manuel (Herrán), accountant imprisoned awaiting trial for embezzlement, risks a disproportionate penalty in relation to the crime and the context. While the regime’s political prisoners are being amnestied, Manuel joins a group fighting for the rights of ordinary prisoners. Spanish society changes rapidly, but the dictatorship does not give up in prison. A hard and useful film.
