Almost all Finns shop in markets. A lot of people also buy clothes there.
Especially with the corona, the popularity of market fashion increased. Nowadays, it is possible to infer what kind of clothes Finns actually buy from supermarket sales data. We familiarized ourselves with the best-selling party clothes and accessories of both Prisma and K-Citymarket.
Just at this time of year, many people buy festive clothes from Market. For example, sales of men’s suits have increased fivefold since last year, Prisma reports.
In women’s fashion, sequins and other sparkling fabric options are especially interesting. Prisma names the matte gold sequin blouse as its single best-selling party wear. The black color of the same product is also popular.
– The party sweater’s affordable price and combinability with many different bottoms is behind its popularity, Prisma’s sales manager Jonna Halme-Räsänen tells.
K-Citymarket’s customers are also interested in everything glittery in this season’s party fashion, although black products still sell the most. Black is the go-to color for parties in the winter season, which can be easily spiced up with individual festive accessories or pieces of clothing.
Among Kesko’s K-Citymarket’s best-selling party fashion products is a black satin collared shirt.
The dress with transparent, long sleeves is one of K-Citymarket’s hit products for the Christmas season.
– In addition, dark-hued, large floral patterns have been popular, says K-Citymarket’s clothing purchasing and sales director Hannele Åberg.
– So far in November, skirts and dresses have been sold in total about half as much as at the same time last year, he continues.
The floral dress made of viscose is a popular piece of clothing for the winter festive season from K-Citymarket’s selection. This could well be used in other seasons as well.
Soft velvet trousers designed for party wear are also popular. Almost 1,000 of these wide-legged pants have been sold in Prism so far. Comfortable pants with an elastic waist could also be worn at home, so after the cookie season they can still be used as lounge pants.
Pleated products have become popular again. According to Prisma, the London Fog brand dress has been sold in plenty in black, but also in bright red.
Dresses made from various festive knits are also now selling well at Prisma.
Black and glitter in the accessories
At the end of October, sales of Prisma’s party bags almost doubled from week 43 to week 44.
– Some of the products have seen huge sales increases of up to 82 percent. As a whole, the sale of women’s handbags and party bags has been 15 percent better during the previous four weeks (weeks 43–45) compared to a year ago, says Prisma’s sales manager Anu Keskinen.
Crossbody bags with chain straps are the most popular in Prisma’s selection. Finns are most interested in black as a shade.
Even though during the festive season you would imagine that high heels and bright colors would be of interest, Prisma names maiharis, which fit even rough party styles, as their best-selling shoes. Ankle boots decorated with glitter and rhinestones are also popular shoes.
– Ankle boots have been sold particularly well, 71 percent more in the previous four weeks compared to a year ago, Keskinen continues.
At K-Citymarket, especially black open-toed shoes with a moderate heel are for sale.
