It’s about five drawings which the princess made in 1946, when she was eight years old. “8510 euros was the hammer price,” said the spokeswoman. “Including the auction costs, that comes out to about 11,000 euros.” It was possible to bid on the drawings from 2000 euros. “We had estimated that they would bring in about 5000 euros, so this is a nice final price.”
The person with the highest bid gets all five drawings, which are framed together. The drawings depict birds, mushrooms and scenes from fairy tales. This mainly concerns fairy tales in which princesses play a role. The drawings are framed, along with a Danish text that translates to ‘Drawings made by Princess Beatrix, Holland, 1946’.
The text is Danish because the drawings were once in the possession of the Danish royal family. The drawings have returned to the Netherlands because a member of the Danish royal family gave them to a Dutch relation in the last century.
