In recent years, the names of newcomers to the British court have been announced within a few days of birth.
In August 1988, Prince Andrew and Duchess Sarah had their little princess. At that time, it took two weeks before the child’s name was announced. She became Beatrice. The first name option didn’t work out for the queen. The duchess, also known as Fergie, would have wanted her princess to be Annabel. In the queen’s opinion, the name was too “juppish”.
The name Beatrice is believed to have come from the name of Queen Victoria’s daughter. Princess Beatrice’s full name is Beatrice Elisabet Mary. Other names also come from the family.
A prince named Henry
Beatrice is not the only one whose name has changed. Everyone knows Prince Harry, but Harry is by no means his given name. His real name is Henry Charles Albert David.
