Princess Annella’s rare title: Will Charlotte get it next

The rare title of Brittihov could next be passed on to the daughter of Prince William and Duchess Catherine, Princess Charlotte.

It has been speculated that after Princess Anne, Charlotte could be the next Princess Royal. AOP

It’s been almost 35 years since Queen Elizabeth, 95, gave her only daughter, the Princess Annelle, the title of royal princess. Anne was awarded the title of Princess Royal in 1987, being only the seventh royal to hold that title.

Before Anne, the title of Royal Princess was held by Princess Mary. Mary died in 1965, so it took 22 years before Elizabeth awarded the title to her own daughter.

Princess Anne was represented last December in a light green jacket. AOP

Although the title has traditionally been granted to the eldest daughter of the ruler, its inheritance is not automatic. The title is for life, and the title of royal princess can only be used by one member of the royal family at a time. For this reason, Elizabeth herself could not get that title, for it was still in use by her aunt, Mary, when Elizabeth already became queen.

In addition to Charlotte, William and Catherine have two other children, Prince George and Prince Louis. AOP

Indeed, it has been speculated that the title of Royal Princess could next go to possibly the daughter of Prince William and Duchess Catherine, Princess Charlotte, born in 2015. The inheritance of the title is possible at the stage when William takes over the reign after his father, Prince Charles. Again, the title can only be awarded to Princess Charlotte when time leaves Princess Anne.
