Prince William cancels working visit to Caribbean village after residents protest | Abroad

The visit to the plantation at Indian Creek, scheduled for Sunday, was the first of the tour. But the visit has now been cancelled. According to the Daily Mail, residents protested the arrival of the princely couple on Friday. In the village there is a conflict over a plot of land with Flora and Fauna International, an NGO of which William is the godfather. The background is land rights that were still granted during the colonial period.

“We don’t want the couple on our land, that’s the message we want to give them,” said the village spokesperson.

William and Kate land in Belize on Saturday afternoon, where they meet with the governor general and the prime minister. Afterwards they go to Jamaica and the Bahamas.
