Prince Willem Alexander farm in Alteveer open longer as crisis emergency shelter

The crisis emergency shelter in Alteveer in North Drenthe will remain open longer. This is announced by the municipality of Noordenveld.

In January, the Prins Willem Alexander farm in Alteveer was set up for the reception of refugees, who had previously been in Coevorden. The reception of refugees would initially last until April 1, with a few weeks at the most, Mayor Klaas Smid promised in January. He must now go back on that promise.

Smid: “Unfortunately, the national government has not succeeded in providing other places for emergency reception locations or regular asylum seekers centers for the COA in the agreed period of 3 months. We therefore feel it is a moral duty to continue to help these people.”

40 women and children temporarily live in the Prins Willem Alexander farm. There will be no additional refugees, now that the reception has been extended. It is not yet clear when the shelter will remain open.
