Prince Harry on King Charles’ cancer: ‘Every illness brings families together’ | Show

Buckingham Palace revealed 11 days ago that Charles had been diagnosed with a form of cancer and would postpone public appointments to undergo treatment. After that message, Harry, who lives in the United States, flew to Britain to visit his father. After a meeting of half an hour he returned home.

Harry speaks about his family in an interview Friday with Good Morning America. The Duke of Sussex says he is ‘grateful’ that he was able to visit his father straight away. “I am grateful that I was able to get on a plane to see him and spend time with him,” the prince said. Harry also says he loves his family.

Asked whether illness can have a uniting effect on a family, and whether that was possible in the case of the royal family, Harry said: “Yes, I’m sure. (…) In all these families I see it day by day – the power of the family unit coming together,” he says in an excerpt of the interview that has already been released. “Every disease, every condition, brings families together.”

Harry and his American wife Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, quit their royal duties in 2020 and moved to California. Contact with the rest of the royal family is difficult.
