The British Parliament was inaugurated on Tuesday. A major exception to traditional spending was that Queen Elizabeth, 96, was not present at the event and gave the traditional Queen’s speech.
Prince Charles spoke instead of Elizabeth. However, the Queen’s crown was present, next to Charles. Charles looked at the crown emotionally before beginning his speech. This was the first time a member of the royal family had spoken in place of the Queen at the opening of the Parliament.
Charles spoke for nine minutes. Alongside Prince Charles were represented by his son, Prince William, and his wife, Duchess Camilla.
According to sources in the Daily Mail, Elizabeth watched a historic moment at Windsor Castle on TV when Charles opened the event.

Until Monday night, there was hope at the court that Queen Elizabeth would have arrived. The palace was told that the queen would not attend the event due to mobility problems.
Following medical instructions, Elisabet reluctantly decided to stay out of the event.
This is the first time since the Queen missed the opening of Parliament in 1963. Elisabeth has missed the opening only twice. Both times she was pregnant.
