Primera División – Barça well over the spending limit

Barcelona (dpa) – According to the Spanish league, the highly indebted FC Barcelona is currently 144 million euros above the permitted spending limit.

“This number comes from the difference between the club’s actual losses and those estimated by La Liga in May 2021,” said La Liga director general Javier Gómez, according to Mundo Deportivo. “Barcelona’s losses are greater than their ability to generate revenue,” added the manager.

FC Barcelona has horrendous debts

According to the league, FC Barcelona is the only top division club to exceed its spending limit on players. Each Spanish club has a different spending limit based on their income-to-expenditure ratio and liabilities. FC Barcelona has accumulated horrendous debts of around 1.35 billion euros.

Gómez therefore currently considers the signing of BVB star striker Erling Haaland, which FC Barcelona is aiming for, to be impossible. “It’s very clear, in order to make purchases, the club must reduce its expenses or generate more income,” said Gómez. According to media reports, Haaland and his advisor Mino Raiola also have offers from Real Madrid and Manchester City.
