Prime Minister Rutte will pay a working visit to the province of Groningen on Wednesday 1 June. The theme of the visit is the progress of the reinforcement operation in the earthquake area and the settlement of (immaterial) damage.

The visit starts in the city of Groningen at the Groningen Mining Damage Institute (IMG). This independent administrative body is responsible for dealing with all damage caused by earthquakes, subsidence and rise. The Prime Minister is updated on the progress made and specifically on the immaterial damage scheme. The purpose of compensation for non-material damage is to provide alleviation and recognition for the suffering and grief caused by earthquakes caused by gas extraction.

Later in the afternoon, Prime Minister Rutte has a kitchen table conversation with some residents of a Groningen village about the impact of damage caused by earthquakes on daily life and the family.

The visit will conclude in Theater De Steeg in Groningen. Here young people who participated in the project tell Crack?! what it’s like for them to grow up in the earthquake zone. Commissioned by the municipality of Eemsdelta, theater and film makers from De Steeg, together with young people from Appingedam and Delfzijl, made a film based on their personal stories and experiences. The project Crack?! is part of the overarching project My Home My Story

Prior to this working visit, Prime Minister Rutte will visit the Education Executive Agency (DUO) in Groningen. This public service provider finances and informs pupils, students and educational institutions and organizes (integration) exams.
