On Wednesday, November 29, Prime Minister Rutte received Prime Minister Frieden of Luxembourg, Prime Minister De Croo of Belgium and Prime Minister Wüst of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia for this year’s Benelux Summit, which was held in the Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam. It is the 10th time that the summit has taken place, this time under the chairmanship of the Netherlands.

Prime Minister Rutte, Prime Minister Frieden and Prime Minister De Croo spoke, among other things, about political and regional cooperation between the Benelux countries. Minister-President Wüst of North Rhine-Westphalia joined us for a working session that discussed, among other things, current geopolitical topics, migration, climate and the European Union. This was followed by a working session with the four Prime Ministers and the College of Secretaries General of the Benelux Union on, among other things, cross-border cooperation on security, water management and energy.

The summit was attended by the three Benelux Prime Ministers a joint statement signed looking back on the Benelux collaboration in 2023 and looking ahead to the collaboration in 2024.
