On Thursday 8 September 2022, Prime Minister Rutte and Minister Kaag of Finance will receive the President of the European Commission Von der Leyen at the Port of Rotterdam Authority. The visit is dominated by the Dutch Recovery and Resilience Plan (HVP), which the cabinet submitted to the European Commission in July.

In the presence of Mayor Aboutaleb of Rotterdam, the program starts with a word of welcome from Mr Siemons, COO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority. This is followed by presentations on sustainable mobility and the investments on this subject from the HVP and on the energy transition in inland shipping. In this context, Project ZES (Zero Emission Services) has introduced a new energy system for making inland shipping more sustainable. The presentations will be followed by a short tour of the electrically powered inland vessel of project ZES, De Alphenaar.

The Dutch HVP focuses on themes that are of major importance to the government, such as climate change, public housing and the labor market. The HVP also continues to invest in sustainable mobility, digitization and education. The plan includes 49 measures, of which 21 are reforms and 28 are investment plans.

Prime Minister Rutte and European Commission President von der Leyen concluded the visit with an informal working dinner about the current European agenda.
