KIEL (dpa-AFX) – Schleswig-Holstein’s Prime Minister Daniel Günther says he has been taking ice-cold showers in the morning for many years. “I only have to turn it a bit warmer when washing my hair, otherwise it won’t foam,” said the CDU politician to the “Bild” newspaper. In order to save energy, he is also not going to the sauna at the moment.

A few weeks ago, Bundestag Vice President Wolfgang Kubicki reported: “I mostly take cold showers. In that respect, I can recommend it to many people. You’re also fresh in the morning if you take a cold shower.”

When asked how citizens should save energy, Günther said: “Every citizen knows best what he could possibly do without. It is important to me that the financially privileged should set a good example.” As a possibility he mentioned not to heat private swimming pools anymore.

The country wants to help people in view of the sharp rise in energy prices with subsidy programs, for example for the construction of heat pumps. According to Günther, the programs should be ready for the winter. “Our climate protection program has a volume of 50 million euros.”

Günther also called on the federal government to abolish differences in electricity prices between northern and southern Germany. “Schleswig-Holsteiners have to pay more for electricity than Bavarians because we feed more renewable energies into the grid and pay higher grid fees for it. The federal government has to change that,” said Günther./nif/DP/zb
