Primary school in Klazienaveen sings song for Giro 555: ‘I think we can help’

A national action today at primary schools throughout the Netherlands. At 11.55 am students sang their own version of the song We are the world† The Sint Henricus School in Klazienaveen also participated.

The students of the Sint Henricus School were slightly tense, but when the music started, the tension fell away. “It was really beautiful,” said teaching assistant Marloes Muskee. “Also with the grandparents and the parents who came along. It was very magical.” It was logical for them that the school chose a song. “A song connects and that was also the goal for today.”

The purpose of the song is to raise money for Giro 555. “After the performance, the parents were able to donate money to the children,” says the teaching assistant. But the children also organized campaigns themselves, such as Xem and Arjen. “We did a bottle campaign. We went to houses to collect empty bottles. We raised a total of 75 euros,” Xem shouts proudly.

Sophie also collected bottles together with a number of family members. “We raised an amount of 103.85.” In the end, the school raises more than 1,100 euros for charity. And the students know all too well why it is necessary. “As children, we think it’s quite bad for the people in Ukraine and what Russia is doing to them,” says Xem. Sophie agrees: “I just think it’s bad and I think we can help.”
