Primark is to be restructured in the Netherlands. More than 240 employees are said to lose their jobs, especially in management. This emerges from an internal email obtained by the news platform Nu.nl, the content of which was confirmed by a company spokesman.
The reorganization involves the elimination of a number of functions in store management “to simplify the structure,” a Primark spokesman told Nu.nl. “The changes are intended to ensure clearer accountability and ensure greater flexibility and management support in the stores.” According to the spokesman, there are currently no plans to close Dutch stores.
The measures are not only intended to cut jobs. Additional functions will also be introduced, which should create 200 jobs, reports Nu.nl. In addition, the Primark management is currently negotiating with the works council and the unions about a social plan for the employees concerned. David Swann Lassche, Country Manager for the Netherlands, said the plan should be ready by May 1st.
Primark has been hit hard by the Corona crisis. The company lost an estimated two billion British pounds in revenue last year due to the Corona measures. Primark had previously announced a restructuring in the UK that would see around 400 job cuts.
