Primark reintroduces changing area for women

Primark will once again equip its UK stores with their own changing rooms for women, the Irish clothing discounter announced on Friday.

The news follows a series of disturbing testimonies from female customers who shared their negative experiences in male and female fitting rooms online. “We have listened to feedback from our customers and colleagues and you will see the first changes across our UK stores over the coming weeks,” Primark said.

These changes are not just limited to the reintroduction of dedicated changing areas for women, but changing rooms will also be fitted with longer curtains and a secure locking mechanism for them. The training of the staff responsible for looking after the changing rooms will also be refreshed in a timely manner. These measures are intended to ensure that customers receive the best possible support.

In 2019, the fast fashion retailer implemented shared changing areas for men and women, British newspaper Metro reported. This decision has now been revised to some extent.

In the future, 187 of the 191 branches in the United Kingdom will again have their own changing area for women as well as a combined changing area. The textile discounter is currently examining further possibilities to ‘make the remaining four locations safer’.

“We will be closely monitoring these changes and will continue to listen to our customers and colleagues,” said Primark.
